The pictures and information displayed in the table below covers all the older headstones and memorials in the ground immediately surrounding St Lawrence Church.
These were compiled in early 2012 by Doug Jenkinson, a local resident, and were originally stored in a Microsoft Access 2000 database. Doug counted 140 memorials and numbered them going round clockwise in a fairly arbitrary manner, without reference to any previous numbering scheme. He made a set of 3 maps to help locate the physical plot.
Each picture has a filename which identifies the first name on the memorial and year of death eg “John Smith 1789”. If the memorial is illegible or incomplete the filename is the plot number on the map eg “Plot 118”. There can be up to 4 pictures for some of the graves. If there is a suffix 'e' it means an enhanced photo to show detail more clearly.
Doug’s pictures and information are available to download as a ZIP file.
There have been a number of changes made to the original data that was compiled by Doug, as well as filling in some of the blanks in the database from information on the headstones. We have also identified another 5 memorials and these have been added in. Some of the headstones were obscured by vegetation which has since been cleared and so we have taken new photos of those; this has also meant that some of the headstones have been moved from their position in 2012 and so some of the plot numbers today do not match those of 2012.
The updated pictures and information are available to download as a ZIP file.
St Lawrence Church would like to express our thanks for the considerable effort that Doug has gone to in putting this information together.
The entries in the table below are sorted by Last Name, First Name and Year Died. Unless specified, the relationships in column 2 are related to the first name for that plot. There are a number of graves where we are unable to determine whose remains are buried there, and these are listed at the end of the table. You can also view the table sorted by Plot number.
View a map showing the position of each headstone in the graveyard. Please note, that the map is not to scale. Clicking on the Plot number in the table below will display the map with that plot highlighted in red.
